Printmaking: Experimental Etching
with Michael Goro
This course is ideal for the artists with printmaking experience.
Michael Goro, a prominent intaglio printmaker and educator will share his unorthodox approach to developing imagery and creating textures. It is going to be a weekend of splashing, dripping and smudging. Participants will lose and regain control over their plates taking advantage of the 'accidental' in the intaglio process.
The course encourages students to experiment with the alternative ways of creating texture while looking for the right proportion of control and chaos. Techniques include use of xerographic toner, spray paint, gum arabic in various combinations as well as scraping, burnishing and drypoint. The object of the course is to produce the completed etchings. Students are encouraged to bring sketches, photos, ideas or feelings of what they would like to create.
AAP studio is a low-toxic environment with professional printmaking facilities and a hands-on learning experience for a maximum of 8 students per course.
Diploma and Certificate courses
The Academy runs a three year intensive practice based fine art Diploma course, focusing on sculpture and painting and covering both traditional figurative skills and creative practice.
The Certificate courses are ideal for people who are serious about developing their artistic talent, but have a limited
amount of time to give to it. The courses run one day a week for two years and include a very comprehensive
programme of study in each area.
The courses include skill development, creative exploration within the subject, and personal guidance, and all culminate in a final show to help develop and finish the work.
