SILS 4 (Southwark Inclusive Learning Service)
A group of six young people from SILS 4 recently completed their 'Take Your Pen for a Walk' project with artist Michelle Johnson. The five day long project resulted in the transformation of a shop mannequin into an artwork, with designs that were created by drawing blindfolded to music that inspired the participants.
The 'Take Your Pen for a Walk' mannequin was exhibited on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square as part of Antony Gormley's 'One and Other' project; a remarkable achievement for the young people, who attended the performance and danced to the original music that inspired the piece in the pouring British summer rain…
'I have learned how to work in a group, how to develop ideas, how to use different painting techniques, and how to look at artwork in our trip to the Tate Modern. It has been much more fun than I expected. It has been great.'
Megan, 15, SILS 4 Articulate participant
As part of their project, SILS 4 participants shared their experience with a group of young people from ‘The Challenge’, a development project that empowers a local Southwark group to run their own creative outreach projects.
