Articulate
Articulate is a visual arts outreach programme, currently in its pilot phase, giving tangible and lasting benefits to disadvantaged and vulnerable young people aged 15 to 22 years, and aiming to improve the prospects of those 'at risk' by:
providing them with some basic learning and life skills (responsibility, focus on an activity, communication skills etc)giving them a framework and some structure to at least part of their day-to-day livesteaching them to take pride in practical and achievable tasks in activities which they can talk about and show outside the learning environment, thus gaining peer group respectimproving their future prospects through the teaching of practical and applied skills, possibly leading to a recognised qualification (either through the Arts Award scheme or in association with another educational establishment)giving them transferable skills, including experience of and guidance in planning and executing events; for example, a final show at the end of a course of study or a joint event such as an art workshop at a festivalWe also aim to esablish a bursary scheme, whereby participants who show promise and dedication can potentially continue their creative studies, either at the Academy or elsewhere.
Since the programme started in January 2009, Articulate has developed collaborations with project partners to run a variety of art-based activities, workshops and projects. Each project partner has a specifically designed programme to offer practical and applied skills, with the aims of working towards an accredited qualification such as a Bronze Arts Award.
Project partners include:
SILS 4 (Southwark Inclusive Learning Service)
SILS is a Key Stage 4 centre for Year 10 and 11 pupils who have been previously excluded from mainstream education. Pupils succeed in GCSE's and vocational training.

The Urban Academy have just finished a screen-printing project with artist Vic Brown, in which they designed and printed their own T-shirt designs. Two project participants are now assisting Vic on further workshops with other groups before starting BA's in Creative Arts in October. Articulate is pleased to have been involved in the creative development of such inspired young people.
TC Education Services

Depaul UK
Depaul UK helps young people who are homeless, vulnerable and disadvantaged in various centres throughout London and the UK.
In September and October, further projects with Depaul UK and TC Education Service have taken place, working with clay, found object sculpture, drawing, painting and photography on themes of identity and a sense of place within local communities.
Watch this space for the Articulate showcase exhibition in the winter.
