The Certificate in Painting is a one day a week course for two years that focuses on a wide range of painting disciplines. It is aimed at people who are serious about developing their artistic practice but are not able to undertake full-time study. Certificate students study alongside Fine Art Diploma students. Courses are taught by tutors who are specialists in their field.
Some areas explored in painting are:
• Materials & methods
• Painting mediums (oil, acrylic, watercolour)
• Elements of painting
• Light
• The palette
• Colour & tone
• Composition in painting
• Figure painting
• Abstract painting
• Landscape painting
• Supports, mediums and paint making.
The course offers additional benefits:
• Second Year Certificate students have the opportunity to exhibit work at the Graduate Show.
• Students have a personal tutor who is available for advice, support and guidance throughout the programme
• The Academy provides space for students to store their materials and work between classes. The large studios are also available for them to use when no other class is present.
• Students are able to join some other classes run by the Academy free of charge (subject to availability – materials must be paid for)
• Certificate students may attend the professional development classes alongside Diploma students.
