The Certificate in Sculpture is a one day a week course for two years that focuses on a very wide range of sculptural mediums. It is aimed at people who are serious about developing their artistic practice but are not able to undertake full-time study. We ensure that a range of technical skills is developed and within many components there is plenty of scope for creative development and expression. Certificate students study alongside Fine Art Diploma students. Courses are taught by tutors who are specialists in their field.
Areas explored in sculpture are:
Figure modelling techniques (large and small scale, including anatomy and measuring techniques) • Portraiture • Glass • Ceramics • Stone carving • Tools and carpentry • Armature making • Plaster and wire • Mould making • Steel welding and fabrication • Silversmithing techniques (copper and brass)
The course offers additional benefits:
• Second Year Certificate students have the opportunity to exhibit works at the Graduate Show.
• Students have a personal tutor who is available for advice, support and guidance throughout the programme
• The Academy provides space for students to store their materials and work between classes. The large studios are also available for use when no other class is present.
• Students are able to join some other classes run by the Academy free of charge (subject to availability – materials must be paid for)
• Certificate students may attend the professional development class alongside Fine Art Diploma students.
