The course, which is part of our one-year Essential Painting Skills programme, is suitable for beginners and those wishing to renew their knowledge of the basics of painting in oils or acrylics. As well as aiming to cover the first principles of drawing for painting and learning how to work from observation, the course especially focuses on exploring textural effects and developing good compositional skills that will give students the confidence in this area when pursuing their own work.
This term of the course covers:
• Introduction to basic material including
structural mediums
• Preparing a work surface
• Understanding of basic drawing techniques
• Composition
• Working from observation: still life and the
figure
• Looking at how artists use composition
• Using composition creatively
