Introduction to Sculpture

Full course information and booking at foot of page

This course is set up in to two main parts: the first part gives you a structured approach to sculpture skills, particularly in clay, with three weeks of modelling a life figure and two weeks sculpting a portrait; the second part broadens those skills to other materials and encourages the use of creativity and imagination.

The first half of term comprises three weeks of figurative sculpture in clay with a life model and two weeks of portraiture with another life model, also in clay.

The second half of term is an introduction to plaster, wire and other materials culminating in a personal project. This can either be a development from the first five weeks of figure work, taking it into other materials in a more abstract style, or a project of your own choice. This will be introduced at the beginning of the course, to give students plenty of time to consider it and collect their own personal materials or found objects, which they might like to incorporate in the piece.

The full term aims to give the student basic knowledge of all these subjects and the opportunity to be expressive and creative.
