Stone Carving

Primarily a practical course, which will lead to an understanding of stone, basic carving techniques and ways of being creative with this wonderful medium. All these aspects will come together in the creation of a finished piece of work.

Students will make sketches of what they would like to carve (plan view, front view and section) to help with understanding the form, before modelling it in clay and then quickly moving into carving.

A note about materials: two types of stone are available, and you will discuss which one to use with your tutor at the start of the course. Payment (cash or cheque) can be made to the tutor on the first day - £26 or £33 per block, depending on the type of stone.

Please note that you will need to have boots with toe caps for this course, in order to protect your feet. They can be purchased quite cheaply (c. £20) on the web or from DIY stores.
