If I know I cannot attend one or more class when I book a course, can I get a discount?

Unfortunately not. Course costs are carefully budgeted (we are a not-for-profit organisation) and courses can only be booked and paid for as a whole, not on a ‘per class’ basis

If I miss a class (e.g. through illness) do I get a refund?

No, as above, courses can only be booked and paid for as a whole, not per class attended

If I miss a class (e.g. through illness) do I get a credit for a class in the following term?

As many of the courses sell out, this is unfortunately not feasible. However, where possible we try to find a suitable additional class in the same term.

Do I have to pay for the full course before it starts?

Yes, your place is not guaranteed until payment is received and payment in full is required prior to attending the first class. Payment can be made online, by post or in person at The Art Academy.

Can I cancel a course once I have booked it?

Cancellations on the part of the student made within 10 working days of the course are non-refundable. Cancellations made before that time will incur a £20 administration charge.

Can I transfer from one course to another?

Transferrals from one course to another may be made up to two weeks prior to the course start date depending on availability.

Can I start a course half way through a term?

This is sometimes possible – please call us to discuss should you wish to join a course after the start date.

Does the Art Academy supply materials for the courses?

Sculpture classes: we provide all equipment and materials.

Painting and drawing: most materials need to be supplied by the students – please refer to the Materials page. You can either bring your own or purchase a pack at the time of booking the course (this will be given to you at the start of your first session)

What clothes should I wear for the different courses?

In general, old clothes, which you do not mind getting dirty or stained, are best

Can I take the work away with me when I have finished it?

All paintings and drawings can be taken away, but for sculpture and other disciplines it depends on the course. See course details for further information.

Are there any courses that I can attend without booking?

Yes, the Saturday Life Painting and Drawing class operates on a drop-in basis (though it can also be booked in advance). All other courses need to be booked in advance.

Do you have courses for beginners?

Yes, all courses are suitable for beginners except the following: Advanced Painting from Life, Reusable Mould Making, and Cold Casting

Do you have courses for children?

During the Summer holiday period, we run one 3-day Children’s Course

Is free car parking available at the Academy?

No, but there is a pay car park next to the premises.
