Spring/Summer Newsletter 2008

We are very proud to announce the launch of the new Art Academy website. The address – www.artacademy.org.uk - remains the same, but that’s about all! But as you are already here, we guess you know that already...

As we are all about the visual arts, we decided to make the new site much richer in images, but also easier to use and more informative. The site features images of our students at work, our new home at 55 Southwark Street, and the rich output of 2D and 3D artwork from both students and tutors, much of it shot by professional photographer and 2nd year Diploma student Pete Sherrard.

As well as comprehensive information about the Diploma course, the site also announces the launch of the new 2-year Certificate course, an ideal option for those looking for in-depth skills development, but with limited time available. Click here for details

The ‘Our Tutors’ page is much more comprehensive than before, allowing potential participants on all courses to see the wonderful work produced by the tutors and to read their artist statements and biographies.

Another exciting feature is the much-expanded section covering our very successful and popular Team Development programmes. These started organically, with requests coming from course attendees to use the visual arts as a training tool. Through our work with major companies, government departments and charities over the years, we have developed a sophisticated but highly enjoyable range of exercises to address all sorts of workplace training needs.

This summer we have a really exciting range of courses, with timetables and subjects to suit everyone.

We have seven weeks of Evening Classes in sculpture, painting and glass. Why not take advantage of the (hopefully!) warmer weather with our Outside Creative Painting course? The area round the Art Academy is rich in architectural interest and the programme will take full advantage of this.

Our five day Short Courses give you a chance to really throw yourself into being creative, so why not take some time out and spend a week with us? These can be taken individually or combined into a Summer School programme, with generous discounts for booking two or more.

If you just haven’t got the time to come on a Short Course, then come along for a weekend with us. If you have never tried your hand at sculpture or glassmaking, or haven’t painted since leaving school, then come and give it a go!

Once again, we will be present at this year’s Art In Action, a four day showcase of excellence in the visual arts. Held in the magnificent setting of the grounds of Waterperrry House in Oxfordshire, the event has expanded over the years to include practical classes (open to all ages and skill levels), performances of fine music and dance, dialogues on arts and crafts, a craft market, and a range of refreshment facilities. We will be there demonstrating portrait clay modeling techniques on all four days, so why not come along and join us? Full information can be found on the Art In Action website: www.artinaction.org.uk
