Paolo Giordanella - The Art Academy

Paolo Giordanella

My art has a core theme that runs through each piece: Equality to all living beings on this planet. Mankind are the self appointed governors of this planet and we show little regard for any being that stands in the way of our lifestyle or find themselves in conflict with man’s interests, labelling them with such words as nuisance, pests or vermin. Intensive farming methods have cruelly denied selected animals of their natural habitat and behavioural patterns. It is my belief that we the human race are just one of many life forms on this earth and no matter the degree of intelligence or scale, all forms of life deserve an equal chance to thrive. Just because humans feel the need to divide the planet up for ownership does not give us the right to exterminate the lives that trespass our boundaries. Just because we decide that another animal is good to eat does not give us the right to imprison it.
With this premise in mind I focus my art on the life that we as humans have a lesser regard for, such as weeds, insects or farmed animals. My aim is to depict these forms figuratively in a way that highlights their innate natural beauty whilst subtly provoking the viewer to question a possible indifference they may possess or re-examine any misguided beliefs.
The format in which my art is presented is primarily sculptural but can also incorporate other mediums such as painting, drawing and photography to translate my message. I sculpt using a variety of materials yet careful thought is given into what portrays the subject and message best, often employing the use of precious and semi precious metals to accentuate our common misconception of values, Economic vs. Life. All my works serve to emphasize and compound the perspective held in my soul, my passionate belief that every life on this planet is dear to someone.
In this shared world there is no living being too small, no life insignificant enough not to be loved.
