Paolo Giordanella

Paolo Giordanella has always had a natural talent with crafting metal since a child. He studied silversmithing at Sir John Cass School of Art and then completed a 4 year apprenticeship for a London based silversmithing company, on completion he continued to work as a qualified silversmith specialising in small scale silver model sculptures, and for his service to the Silversmithing trade was granted the Freedom of the City of London in 1996.

The work he produced was commissioned by prestigious clients such as the Duchess of York, the Sultan of Brunei, Sir Elton John via renowned silversmithing companies both in London and Europe and in 1994 he was invited to manage a workshop in Malta where he took on 2 apprentices. Being out of the ‘London’ scene for 3 years changed Giordanella’s outlook and when he returned back to the UK he decided to pursue a much more artistic slant to his profession.

Enrolling in an art course at Reigate College and opening up his own business, he began to explore more freely the possibilities of communicating through his pieces, rather than the usual mono level of admiration of his skill that his work typically produced. Struggling with the whole concept of values during much of this period he found he had to express himself and translate his ideas on an entirely different level, so in 2003 he commenced a diploma course in sculpture at the Art Academy, London. During this 4 year period, as a consequence of studying as well as teaching, Giordanella has been able to unlock many principles that underpin his character and now produces work that has much more to offer from a contemplative point of view. In 2005 he exhibited in Art in Action, and has sold pieces to private collectors emanating from his end of year shows at the Art Academy. His graduation show in July 2007, which earned Giordanella a First for his diploma in fine art sculpture, was a concentrated collection that focused very much on Giordanella’s fundamental outlook on life; Equality to all living beings.

This launch of Giordanella’s artistic career was well received, the work within his exhibition was remarked on by Professor Bruce Russell FRSA as having “a stylish authority…[where] the shimmer of luxury and the swagger of designerism is in fact debunked by rather shocking readings that reveal the artist's complex psyche and freighted personal circumstances.” Since graduating, Giordanella has already had his work selected to be part of the Society of Wildlife Artists annual exhibition being held at the Mall Galleries, London in September / October 2007.
