Rob Pepper - The Art Academy

Rob Pepper

”Making a drawing each day is like stamping time with an emblem, a marking of that moment.”
Rob Pepper 2007
Rob Pepper is a London-based artist who uses drawing to capture an essence of place. He draws every day, taking inspiration from his surroundings, and in doing so, has developed a fascinating, ever-changing canvas for our times. He collaborates in the conceptual development of the artwork with his partner Aimie Littler.

Rob uses a variety of media in the creation of his artwork; however, pen and ink drawings form the cornerstone of his work, often using as a starting point a technique he terms ‘Conscious Reflex Drawing’. This method involves not looking at the paper as he draws, in the belief that this liberates the piece from visual judgement and constant editing.

A senior tutor at London's Art Academy and graduate of the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design, Rob conducts a popular monthly workshop, The Drawing room, using art as a form of meditation. He recently moved his studio from The Art Academy to become artist-in-residence at St. Luke's church, where he created a spectacular 40-panel artwork to decorate the chancel ceiling of the newly-renovated building.

Rob's international exhibitions include solo shows in the United States and Australia. In 2007 he enjoyed several successful exhibitions in London and Texas. he was the first emerging artist to be shown in the new art space at Liberty on Regent Street, with a collection of large-scale paintings and exclusive lithographs based on a series of his daily drawings of London. He went on to tour Austin, Dallas and Houston with his exhibition ‘The State of Texas’.

His artwork is held in private and public sector collections worldwide. He has been commissioned by the Abu Dhabi Royal Family, large international corporate clients and various churches.

His drawings illustrate books including The Voice (2005, USA); his limited-edition collectors' series The Compendium (2006); The Artist's Cut (2007); and The Texan Compendium (2007).
