Figure and Portrait Painting

Full course details and booking at foot of page

An in-depth week of portrait painting, welcoming students of all levels. The aim is to introduce the less experienced as well as to refresh those more practised in the art of portraiture and figure painting. Emphasis is on both practical and intuitive skills and will cover planning and executing two types of portrait: head & shoulders and full figure composition.

Tuition covers the practical use of paint, including, colour, tone, proportion and style, as well as experimentation with suggested mixing mediums. The course aims to develop critical and visual awareness of the model and surroundings. The art of looking is everything in portraiture, where a likeness is crucial to its success. Students will have the opportunity to do a full figure painting and a portrait within this course.
