Kiln formed glass

Full course details and booking at foot of page

This comprehensive course explores the varied techniques of kiln formed glass. It offers a general overview, including a brief study of the history of glassmaking, and an in-depth study, moving into a self-initiated project in glass that allows the opportunity to experiment with ideas and technical skills from a sculptural perspective.

Techniques include glass cutting, glass fusing, glass slumping, pate-de-verre, small scale open glass casting, surface decoration, kiln programming, and assemblage and display techniques. Students start with an open and experimental approach and then choose a technique, or techniques, that favour their aptitude and expression. Group discussion and analysis of class work as we progress will broaden the individual’s understanding and experience of the subject.
Course tutor Brett Manley is not only a skilled teacher, but also a well-respected glassmaker, producing work at vastly different scales, from table pieces to installations.
